The
All Terrain Mountain Bike Challenge (ATMBC)
has rocked the mountain bike scene by producing a successful freeride
event that has received rave reviews by the riders, spectators and
media.
The ATMBC, the first event of its kind to be held in the world, is
now receiving extensive post event media attention with national and
international television and print coverage.
About
the event
The
ATMBC was held in the alpine town of Jindabyne, NSW, Australia on
the weekend of 23 - 25 March 2001.
This was a race that tested the skills and courage of elite mountain
bike riders and at first inspection it totally freaked a few of
them out.
The ATMBC was about riding a mountain without specified bike trails.
The riders picked their way through terrain that had never been
ridden and challenged the best of them as they mustered all their
skill and wit, picking jaw dropping routes that defied expectations
and unlocked an intense, inspiring style of mountain bike riding.
This grueling style of riding showcases the amazing talents of the
current leading riders, the latest technology in the industry and
cutting edge mountain bike terrain.
The ATMBC was a spectacular made-for-television event.
Spectators
As
the event was specifically designed and scheduled to suit a television
broadcast there were restrictions for on-site spectators made by
the local council.
The ATMBC still attracted an eager crowd of a couple of hundred
spectators. Since the event the local council has warmed to the
idea of catering for spectators and the event organisers are planning
for large crowd participation for the 2002 ATMBC.
