All Terrain

Mountain Bike Challenge

EVENT DATE: MARCH 23, 24 & 25 2001.

LOCATION: JINDABYNE NSW AUSTRALIA

PROGRESS REPORT: 16th FEBRUARY 2001

* Summary of event description (skip this topic if you are already familiar with the ATMBC).

The All Terrain Mountain Bike Challenge (ATMBC) is about freeride mountain biking, about riding a bike where most of us have trouble even walking. Itís not about who gets from point A to B the fastest, instead itís about taking on the most radical line and powering through it with total control and kick ass style.

The course is littered with rough, rocky, steep Australian-bush landscape (approx 300m vertical decent over approx 1 km). Lake Jindabyne dam wall is located alongside the event course and the spectacular backdrop of the lake and Snowy Mountains match the awesome riding terrain.

Along with the main event there will be an expression session which will profile ëNorth Shoreí style riding and a huge dirt gap jump. Thereís also $5000 cash in prize money up for grabs.

* Inside Sport magazine confirms media coverage

Inside Sport, Australiaís leading sporting magazine and the 2000 MPA winner of ëMagazine Of The Year,í ëWriter Of The Yearí and ëSpecial Interest Magazine Of The Yearí confirms media coverage of the ATMBC.

Inside Sport will be sending a journalist for the entire three days of the event in order to collect material and get the inside wrap on the event for a five to seven page feature spread.

* Expert still-photographers confirmed

Legend and veteran mountain bike photographer, Tony Nolan, confirms his commitment and interest in the All Terrain Mountain Bike Challenge by confirming his position as one of the key full time photographers to be covering the event.

The event organisers are also very happy to have mountain bike photographic specialist, John Tucker, as a confirmed full time photographer to cover the ATMBC which will include photos of the event featured on his successful mountain bike web site.

* Canadian riders heading down under

Rocky Mountain Bikes, based in Canada, have been in discussion with ATMBC organisers about sending their freeride team to compete in the ATMBC. ATMBC organisers and Rocky Mountain are both interested in including at least two Rocky Mountain riders as part of the competitor line up for the event. At this stage both parties are hopeful of sending world-recognised freeriders Richie Schley and Wade Simmons to arguably the worldís first international major freeride event.

* New Zealand riders confirmed

Hard core Kiwi rider Glen Sisarich is confirmed as an A List starter and will be flying the New Zealand flag as he takes on Australian and elite international riders. A second Kiwi rider will also be confirmed shortly.

* The main event course

The main event course designed by Mike Atkins and Mike Shaw is 90% complete and is now being fitted with safety features.

* Upgraded sponsorship from existing sponsors

Jindabyne Mitre 10 Hardware store and Perisher Blue resort have both recently increased their level of sponsorship. The added support will benefit the ATMBC event immensely.

* ATMBC Sponsorship

The first year of a major sporting event is the toughest for winning sponsorship support. The ATMBC has confirmed support in excess of itís original goal and has in turn been able to further upgrade the event to Australiaís first ever major freeride mountain bike event and one of the few events of itís kind to be held in the World. Confirmed financial supporters include:

Please Note: Sponsorship positions are still available. For details contact event project manager.

* Snowy River Shire Council positive for 2002

Snowy River Shire Council general manager Ross McKinney has supported and acknowledged the ATMBC organiserís goal of making the 2002 ATMBC into a major on-sight spectator event. During an interview with the Express-Summit Sun newspaper, Mr McKinney said he believes the desired expansion to include spectators could very well become a reality. "I donít have any reason at this stage to think it wouldnít [become a spectator event]," he said.

Thanks for your interest,

Nolen Oayda

Project Manager.
